Tuite Law is proud to announce the 2017 winner of its Tuite Law Scholarship, Darrien Rose. Darrien is currently a junior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is studying Community Health with concentrations in Health Planning and Administration and Health Education and Promotion. He is on a pre-nursing track with the goal of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.

In this role, Darrien hopes to work with individuals from underserved communities who suffer from chronic health conditions. This is an area in the health field where dedicated professionals are especially needed because of the significant disparity between the care individuals in affluent communities receive and the care those in underprivileged communities can access for their chronic conditions.

After finishing his degree, Rose plans to enter the Peace Corps. While in the Peace Corps, he plans to work as a registered nurse and provide care for economically disadvantaged individuals and families.

Helping Students from Economically Disadvantaged Communities Pursue their Educational Goals

Injury lawRose chose this career path after experiencing health-related difficulties in his own life. He graduated from Danville High School in Danville, Illinois in 2015. Growing up, he experienced the healthcare disparities that plague communities of differing socioeconomic levels firsthand.

Danville is one of the many towns in Illinois that have suffered economically in recent decades due to the loss of manufacturing jobs. By working in community health, Rose hopes to help to fill a healthcare gap that leaves many individuals in pain and suffering from preventable health conditions. Community health is as much about providing health education as it is about providing healthcare.

“Danville is a community that has been hard hit by the loss of manufacturing like Rockford,” says Greg Tuite, owner and managing attorney at Tuite Law. “Obviously U of I is the premier school in our state and it is great to see a young man from an economically challenged city pursue a career in the medical field with the goal of working with an underserved community.”
